If you go to a fashion institute...?

If you go to a fashion institute (For example, the fashion institute of technology), do you have to take classes that require actual clothing design, or is it possible to go for just fashion marketing? Sorry, I don't know much about any of this. I'm only a freshman in highschool, I was just curious. I want to be a fashion buyer.
