How do you become a good CGI Artist?

I'm currently in highschool about to go in junior year and I really want my profession to be a CGI artist but to be honest, I'm lost. I think my main issue is once you find a program to use, how do you make something out of nothing. I suck at drawing in real life so I have never really been able to get that artist mind where you just know how to draw a face or a body and just have to use what you know about that in a program. I can't do that yet. Do they teach that in college or...? Also, what would be a good program to start off with? Thanks for helping :)
